US Forex broker FXCM Inc (NYSE:FXCM) has announced it was a victim of a criminal cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to customer information.
At this time the broker has detected a small number of unauthorized wire transfers from accounts of its customers. It stresses, however, that all funds have been returned to the appropriate accounts and the customers affected have been contacted.
FXCM said it had received an email from a hacker claiming to have unlawful access to customer information. The broker immediately notified the FBI of this threat and is currently working together with the FBI’s investigation.
FXCM has also started a full investigation, in cooperation with an expert cybersecurity firm, to investigate the incident and to protect customer information. FXCM and the firm engaged are conducting an extensive forensic investigation to determine the scope of the incident and identify affected customers.
With regard to the incident, the broker has established a dedicated webpage where members can access information, including frequent questions and answers.
FXCM reiterates that it takes the privacy and security of its customer information very seriously.
