If you are waiting for Samsung or Apple to get with cryptocurrencies and incorporate crypto wallets within their various smartphone sets, you now have an alternative that will achieve the same thing. Opera, a browser software company, announced that it is now testing its Opera Touch browser with built-in crypto wallet in the iOS operating system environment.
Opera is publicly traded on the Nasdaq with ownership control residing with Chinese business interests. It recently perfected its crypto browser service for Androids, but is now extending that success to include Apple devices, as well.
As reported by one source:
The so-called Opera Touch will be specifically designed for surfing the decentralized web (more commonly known as Web 3.0) and interacting with apps on the Etheruem network. The launch timeline is not yet clear, but the company says you can already sign up for a chance to become an early tester. Among other things, Opera Touch will come with a built-in cryptocurrency wallet, which lets you store and transact various ERC20 tokens, and other non-fungible Ethereum-based assets, like CryptoKitties.
We are taking this step in response to popular demand from the Ethereum community,” Opera stated in its press release.
Opera is a web browser for Microsoft Windows, Android, macOS, and Linux operating systems. It differentiates itself by its speed, innovative features, and the ability to use it easily with one hand. The firm, originally founded in Norway, recently introduced a new browser service for users in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, which would allow users to purchase Ethereum via a partnership with Safello, a local brokerage firm.
Opera Touch may not be for everyone, but for those that prefer something better than the standard search engine, Opera Touch may be right for you. It is available in the Google App Store. According to one enthusiastic tech reviewer:
Designed for when you’re on the move. Unlike other mobile browsers, Opera Touch is designed to let you explore the web using just one hand. The Fast Action Button is always available on your browser screen and gives you direct access to Instant Search.
Will Opera’s new features for Android and Apple devices “spearhead the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies and dapps”? Opera currently commands a bit more than 2% of the search engine market share and may only appeal to more tech savvy folks, but every little bit of support for crypto related services can only help on the broader crypto awareness front.
