On the 6th of February, 2019, Opera announced that Opera users will not be able to buy cryptocurrencies directly from the website browser. The browser is the new Web 3, Opera for Android one that enables Android users to purchase cryptos.
The new solution is made available to people in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The cash-to-crypto exchange will be enabled by Opera’s partnership with Safello, a crypto brokerage company.
Opera’s strategy for the recent future is to eliminate as many of the hurdles related to accessing cryptos as possible. Last year, for example, the company was the first to create and introduce the blockchain-powered browser – Opera for Android. The browser has a built-in wallet that can be easily topped up.
The compliance process will be completed by Safello, as the company is licensed by the Sweden’s Financial Supervisory Authority. Safello will essentially validate all purchases that are made by verifying buyers’ ID cards.
In addition, some perks that will be offered to the users in the three Scandinavian countries include: reduced fees of 2.5% from Safello (Sweden), and 5% reduced fee for users in Norway and Denmark.
The Product Lead at Opera, Mr. Charles Hamel commented on the new solution:
We think that the next important phase for crypto will come from usage and that for it to reach wider adoption, it has to be easy to buy and easy to use. We believe that the browser will be the entry point for these use cases. Thanks to our partnership with Safello, we are taking one more step towards this vision.
