According to CoinDesk, the US Senate passed a $700 billion defense bill that includes a mandate for the Department of Defense to conduct a study on blockchain and the technology behind it.
On September 18th, along with the US military defense spending budget, an amendment suggested by Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, proposed a potential study on the blockchain technology and the applications it involves.
As reported by CoinDesk:
“…a report on the potential offensive and defensive cyber applications of blockchain technology and other distributed database technologies and an assessment of efforts by foreign powers, extremist organizations, and criminal networks to utilize these technologies.”
After the Bitcoin price downfall in recent weeks, and then the resurgence of the price levels this week, with the fear of China’s impact on the blockchain markets and innovations, the news of the bill came not as shockingly as the news in July, 2017, when the US Congress passed a similar bill to the newly proposed one.
