Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has appointed Ferheen Mahomed to serve as its Group General Counsel from today (Monday).
Ms Mahomed will head HKEX’s Legal Services Department and oversee the Group’s legal function, including the teams at the London Metal Exchange (LME) and LME Clear. She will report to HKEX Chief Executive Charles Li and work closely with HKEX’s Chief Regulatory Officer and Head of Listing, David Graham, who will continue to have overall Group-wide oversight of regulatory matters in addition to his responsibility for the Listing, Regulatory Compliance and Secretarial Services departments.
Ms Mahomed’s most recent role was Executive Vice President of Business Development at Pacific Century Group. Her previous roles included Group General Counsel of CLSA and General Counsel for Asia Pacific of Societe Generale. She is a qualified solicitor in Hong Kong as well as England and Wales, and has worked at Slaughter and May in Hong Kong and London. She is also a former member of the product advisory committee of Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission as well as the Asia Pacific legal and regulatory Committee of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association.
Ms Mahomed is a law graduate from the University of Hong Kong and has a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from St John’s College at the University of Oxford in the UK, where she was a Rhodes Scholar.
