BBVA Establishes Analytics Transformation Unit

On Monday, BBVA announced the creation of its Analytics Transformation Unit, which the company expects will consolidate its global network of over 2,500 data scientists and specialists.

The move aimed at enhancing the bank’s data-driven services by integrating advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and predictive analytics to provide greater value to customers and streamline internal processes.

BBVA explained that the new unit combines generative and predictive AI to use historical data for future trend forecasting. This is with the aim of accelerating the development of innovative solutions.

It brings together more than 1,500 data specialists with 1,000 data scientists from across BBVA’s key markets, including Spain, Turkey, Mexico, and South America.

Part of the initiative is an expansion of BBVA’s Data University, which now includes courses on generative AI in collaboration with OpenAI.

The bank said that over 50,000 employees have benefited from the programme since its inception, with nearly 5,000 completing specialised courses.

“The transformation aims to align advances in advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and talent management with key strategic priorities, such as enhancing the Group’s operational excellence, expanding the customer base, and supporting customers in improving their financial health,” said Ricardo García Martín, Global Head of Analytics Transformation.

He added: “Analytics Transformation not only enhances our capabilities but also reshapes the way we leverage data to drive business transformation and deliver value to our customers.”
