ANZ today announced the appointment of Kevin Corbally as Chief Risk Officer, reporting to Chief Executive Officer Shayne Elliott.
Mr Corbally joined ANZ in 2009 and is currently Group General Manager Internal Audit after having previously held senior institutional banking and credit management roles. Prior to joining ANZ, he was Managing Director and Head of Corporate & Commercial Banking at Citigroup in Australia & New Zealand.
In his role as Chief Risk Officer, Mr Corbally will be a member of the Group Executive Committee, responsible for protecting the Group’s balance sheet as well as overseeing its risk strategies, policies and processes.
Commenting on the appointment Mr Elliott said:
Managing risk appropriately is a critical function of all high-performing banks and I’m pleased to be able to appoint a strong leader with demonstrated values and diverse experience at a time the industry is facing increasing reputational and regulatory issues.
Kevin’s experience in international credit and capital management combined with his track-record leading our internal audit function makes him the ideal executive to continue the evolution of our risk function and to build on the strong, mutually respectful relationships with our regulators,” he added.
Mr Corbally succeeds Nigel Williams who is retiring from ANZ to pursue a career as a non-executive director.
Nigel played a leading role in resolving business and regulatory issues and has significantly reduced ANZ’s risk profile. He can be proud of his time at ANZ and we wish him well for the next stage of his career as a non-executive director,” Mr Elliott concluded.
Mr Corbally’s appointment is effective 19 March 2018 and he will be based in Melbourne.
