CLS announced today that Metrobank just joined CLSSettlement as a third-party participant. Metrobank is the first Philippine bank to access CLS’s settlement service and UBS, a CLSSettlement member, will provide access to Metrobank.
The increase in third-party participation in CLSSettlement throughout the region has been driven by a number of factors: since 2018, the overall number of Asia Pacific third parties (regional/third-party banks, funds, corporates and non-bank financial institutions) participating in the settlement service increased by 15% while respective average daily gross values settled increased by 17%. In that same time period, the average daily gross values settled by third-party banks in the region also increased by 16%.
LeapRate reminds that last February, State Street Trust provided first Japanese pension fund with access to CLSSettlement. Few months later, China CITIC Bank joined CLSSettlement as a third-party client.
