LeapRate Exclusive… LeapRate has learned that Limassol, Cyprus based institutional FX liquidity provider PositivaFX has hired Dominic Poynter as its new Head of Marketing.
Dominic Poynter is joining PositivaFX after spending the past three years at retail forex broker easyMarkets as its Director of Marketing Operations, including overseeing that company’s rebranding from easyForex to easyMarkets early last year. He had earlier been Head of Marketing for JFD Brokers Ltd, and Head of Online Marketing at FXTM. A British National, Dominic began his career in Cyprus and in Forex back in 2010 as Website Manager at FxPro.
So why would an institutional FX firm hire a CMO with mainly retail FX and online marketing experience?
The answer to that question lies in our exclusive report from February, when we reported that PositivaFX was taking concrete steps to launch a retail forex operation.
PositivaFX, based in Limassol, Cyprus and founded in 2014 by CEO George Stylianou and COO Kaiming Liu, has grown into a fairly successful institutional FX shop, serving mainly small to medium sized regulated and offshore brokers. Stylianou and Liu founded PositivaFX with the backing of Asian investors, who are also backstopping the company’s move into retail after being pleased with the company’s initial foray into institutional FX.
We understand that the company has recently submitted documentation to CySEC to request an upgrade in its license from STP to market maker, as well as an approval of an updated business plan for Retail, to facilitate the move to add Retail brokerage. Depending on approval time (and any other unforeseen factors), we believe that PositivaFX will open for business for retail clients during Q3.
PositivaFX CEO George Stylianou spoke with LeapRate about the hiring of Dominic Poynter:
We are very excited that Dominic has joined us. We are eager to use his “swiss army knife” of skills. He has extensive digital marketing experience and brining a marketing head of his caliber into the company is a major boost for everyone here. Dominic will be building and launching the new retail FX brand, the development of which is still firmly on track.
