ETFGI, the independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, has reported assets invested in ETFs/ETPs listed globally reached a new record high US$3.343 trillion at the end of July 2016. Net flows gathered by ETFs/ETPs in July were strong with US$52.68 billion of net new assets gathered during the month marking the 30th consecutive month of net inflows, according to preliminary data from ETFGI’s July 2016 global ETF and ETP industry insights report (click here to view the ETFGI global asset growth chart).
Record levels of assets were also reached at the end of July for ETFs/ETPs listed in the United States at US$2.367 trillion, in Europe at US$539.16 billion, in Japan at US$191.82 billion and in Canada which reached US$81.19 billion.
At the end of July 2016, the Global ETF/ETP industry had 6,476 ETFs/ETPs, with 12,342 listings, assets of US$3.343 trillion, from 285 providers listed on 65 exchanges in 53 countries.
According to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner at ETFGI:
Investor confidence returned during July after the surprising result of June’s Brexit vote. The S&P 500 was up 3.7% in July. Developed markets outside the U.S. gained 5.1% and emerging markets were up 4.8%.”
In July 2016, ETFs/ETPs listed globally gathered net inflows of US$52.60 billion. Equity ETFs/ETPs gathered the largest net inflows with US$33.36 billion, followed by fixed income ETFs/ETPs with US$13.25 billion, and commodity ETFs/ETPs with US$5.45 billion.
YTD through end of July 2016, ETFs/ETPs gathered net inflows of US$175.32 billion which is below the record level of US$199.06 billion gathered at this point in 2015. YTD, fixed income ETFs/ETPs have gathered a record level and the largest net inflows with US$80.89 billion, followed by equity ETFs/ETPs with US$48.43 billion, and commodity ETFs/ETPs which have gathered a record level of US$31.99 billion net inflows.
iShares gathered the largest net ETF/ETP inflows in July with US$23.45 billion, followed by SPDR ETFs with US$14.34 billion and Vanguard with US$7.17 billion net inflows.
YTD, iShares gathered the largest net ETF/ETP inflows with US$63.97 billion, followed by Vanguard with US$49.46 billion and SPDR ETFs with US$17.67 billion net inflows.
