Japan Exchange Group, Inc. (JPX) and Nomura Research Institute today announce an agreement to jointly start conducting proof of concept (PoC) tests for blockchain, or distributed ledger, technology.
The announcement is released shortly after JPX unveiled a similar partnership with IBM Japan, which also focused on PoC tests of blockchain tech.
The tests that JPX will conduct in cooperation with Nomura Research Institute will aim to evaluate the limits and possibilities of the technology in markets that have low transaction data volume.
JPX sees blockchain technology as one of the most promising aspects of Fintech that could be applied to constructing shared infrastructure to secure high availability and reliability at low cost. At the same time, there are issues to be resolved in the technology, and it will need to be continually verified and enhanced before its actual application in financial business operations.
