Moscow Exchange, or Moskovskaya Birzha OAO (MCX:MOEX), today announced a set of achievements regarding the performance of the derivatives trading segment in September 2015.
The first day of September saw 2.6 million trades executed in the derivatives market, the highest daily result since MOEX started offering trading with derivatives. The achievement was ahead of the previous record set on August 25, 2015, when 2.4 million derivatives trades were carried out.
The highest rise in activity, MOEX said, is in the commodity futures segment. During last month, the turnover of Brent futures reached RUB 549 billion ($8.37 billion), which is impressively higher than the RUB 18 billion result registered in September 2014.
In addition, the Exchange noted a surge in the number of client accounts in the derivatives market – at the end of September 2015, this number stood at 42,976.
The announcement of the achievements of the derivatives trading segment at MOEX comes in the face of numerous interruptions in derivatives trading registered over the past several months. The latest interruption – on September 21, 2015, lasted more than two hours.
