Oanda beefs up senior management team

Oanda’s new CMO comes from outside the FX industry.

Oanda, one of the world’s leading online FX firms, announced the addition of two new outside hires to its senior management team. Oanda has been rebuilding its management ranks since K Duker took over as CEO last May from Oanda founder Michael Stumm. Oanda also saw the departure of its CFO, Nooshin Mohtashami, last summer.

Joining Oanda are:

  • Stacey Grant-Thompson, as Chief Marketing Officer. Grant-Thompson joins Oanda after spending nearly a decade at Rogers Communications, Canada’s leading wireless provider, where most recently she headed Chatr, Rogers’ discount prepaid wireless business. She will be based in Oada’s Toronto headquarters.
  • Jesper Bruun-Olsen, as Managing Director, Northeast Asia and Head of Oanda Japan. Bruun-Olsen joins from a similar role at Tradeweb Japan, and will be based in Oanda’s Hong Kong office.

Most interesting here in the hiring of Oanda’s new CMO from outside the industry. Retail FX is very much a different (and more global, multilingual, web-based…) animal than virtually any other industry. It will be interesting to see how and if Oanda changes its marketing strategy, which has been much less online and much more subdued to date than most of its retail FX competitors.

We speculated earlier that Oanda was going to rebuild its business (and management team) with an eye toward an IPO at some point. At least in Canada, the name Rogers Communications is synonymous with capital markets success, its stock having held up very well over many years of trading.
