The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) just launched InvestmentReporting.ca, a new website that helps investors navigate new annual reports introduced as part of the Canadian Securities Administrators’ Client Relationship Model – Phase 2 (CRM2) initiative.
The reports provide greater transparency about the performance of an investor’s account over specific periods of time and the fees paid to the investor’s firm.
For the first time, many investors will be receiving new reports about their account performance and fees,” said Tyler Fleming, Director of the Investor Office at the OSC. “InvestmentReporting.ca breaks down what investors can expect from the new reports, so investors can better understand how they are progressing towards their financial goals and use them to make more informed decisions about their money.
The new annual performance report looks at the overall performance of an investor’s account, providing an overview of how changes in the value of the investments within the account have affected the total value of the account over the past year. The new annual report on charges and fees breaks down the fees that investors are paying on their account, allowing them to consider their account’s performance and the value of the advice and services that their firm has provided.
The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices and to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in the capital markets.
