Switzerland’s national financial regulatory authority FINMA has today announced that Nina Arquint, Head of the Strategic Services division, will leave the organization and hand over her responsibilities on 1 January 2015. Her successor is Rupert Schaefer, who currently manages the International Affairs section.
Ms. Arquint spent twelve years working for the Federal Insurance Office (FIO) and FINMA. In July 2015, she will take up a new position in the financial sector. She began her career in the FIO legal department, and as secretary to the FINMA Board of Directors, she was closely involved in setting up the new authority.
Nina Arquint, who has a Ph.D. in law, led FINMA’s General Secretariat starting in October 2009, and became a member of the Executive Board in February 2013. FINMA CEO Mark Branson affirms: “With Nina Arquint’s departure, we are losing not only an esteemed colleague and a distinguished lawyer, but an expert who knows FINMA from the ground up. On behalf of my colleagues, I would like to thank her for her dedication and commitment, particularly during FINMA’s early phase. I wish her every success in her future career.”
Rupert Schaefer is a lawyer who worked in academia, joined FINMA in 2010. He will succeed Nina Arquint and take over the Strategic Services division. He has headed the International Affairs section since 2013 and participated in many national and international expert committees. Both the Board of Directors and the Executive Board look forward to working with him.
